Generally, the best period for this itinerary is between October and April, when conditions are particularly favorable across Raja Ampat, Lembeh Strait, Alor, and the northern regions of Komodo National Park.

During these months, divers can often enjoy excellent underwater visibility, comfortable sea conditions, and abundant marine life activity. Lembeh Strait offers outstanding macro diving year-round, while Raja Ampat typically experiences its best conditions from October through April. Alor and Komodo remain excellent throughout much of the year, with seasonal variations influencing currents and marine life encounters.

Because diving conditions can vary between destinations and seasons, we are always happy to recommend the most suitable travel period based on your interests, whether you prioritize macro photography, manta rays, pelagic species, or overall diving conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What certification level is recommended for this Ultimate Indonesia Diving Expedition?

We recommend a minimum Open Water certification with recent diving experience. However, Advanced Open Water certification is strongly recommended, particularly for destinations such as Komodo National Park where currents can occasionally be strong.

The exact number depends on the dive operators, weather conditions, and your personal preferences. Typically, this expedition includes approximately 32–40 dives across Alor, Komodo, Lembeh Strait, and Raja Ampat.

Nitrox certification is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended, especially for divers planning multiple consecutive diving days. Nitrox is often available at additional cost in Komodo, Lembeh, and Raja Ampat.

Lembeh Strait is widely considered one of the world’s premier macro diving destinations. Divers and underwater photographers regularly visit specifically to search for rare species such as mimic octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish, hairy frogfish, blue-ringed octopus, and pygmy seahorses.

Both Komodo National Park and Raja Ampat offer excellent opportunities to encounter manta rays. Sangalaki Island in Derawan would also be a fantastic addition for travelers particularly interested in manta encounters.

All four destinations offer exceptional reefs, but Raja Ampat is widely regarded as the most biodiverse marine ecosystem on Earth. Alor is also famous for its remarkably healthy and relatively untouched coral reefs.

Yes, although this itinerary is primarily designed for certified divers. Non-diving companions are welcome, but some destinations are heavily focused on diving activities and may offer limited alternative excursions.

Absolutely. This expedition is ideal for underwater photographers. Wide-angle enthusiasts will particularly enjoy Komodo and Raja Ampat, while macro photographers often consider Lembeh Strait one of the best destinations in the world.

Most destinations can be enjoyed by divers with moderate experience. However, because this expedition includes drift diving, liveaboards, and multiple dive regions, we generally recommend at least 30-50 logged dives to fully appreciate the experience.

No wildlife sightings can ever be guaranteed. However, Komodo and Raja Ampat offer some of the highest chances in Indonesia for encountering manta rays, reef sharks, turtles, large schools of fish, and other pelagic species.

Of course. The expedition can be shortened, extended, or customized based on your available travel time and diving interests. Additional destinations such as Banggai Islands, Derawan, Alor extensions, Togean Islands, or even land-based tours can easily be incorporated.

Each destination offers a completely different diving experience. Alor is known for pristine reefs and healthy coral ecosystems, Komodo for thrilling drift dives and pelagic encounters, Lembeh for world-class macro diving, and Raja Ampat for unrivaled marine biodiversity. Together, they create one of the most comprehensive diving itineraries available anywhere in Indonesia.
